Light the way

An exploration of the value of light and the power of the sun to transform lives

The lesson explores the issues for the 1.6 billion people who do not have access to mains electricity and the positive role which solar power can play in their lives.

The lesson and resources are very suitable for pupils aged from 7-11 and will suit some older pupils with a little adaptation.

The resource collection comprises:

Case studies - explaining how rechargeable solar lights have transformed lives in Africa
A lesson plan - to support using the resources and a link to a supporting You Tube video
A worksheet - guiding pupils to reflect on how rechargeable solar lights have transformed lives in Africa and produce a display
A PowerPoint presentation - to support and guide the lesson
