SeeMe is a collaboration between Siemens and the Girls’ School Association (GSA) with the aim of inspiring girls to take up STEM careers and to challenge gender stereotypes.
We are working with BBC TV presenter and Scientist Fran Scott and have created an interactive, curriculum-linked stage show in order to build confidence and motivate girls to consider a job using STEM subjects.
The show explores modern women’s ground-breaking contributions to science, technology and engineering and illustrates that engineering can lead to a wide variety of jobs. As well as learning about famous women in engineering, the 50-minute stage show is a mixture of live experiments and Q&As with Siemens’ female apprentices, with the aim of making the girls in the audience think “I can, I could, I will….”
Alongside the live events, the other way we are getting the word out to girls in schools is by running teacher training sessions led by Siemens staff and a raft of successful women including Jess Wade (Physicist and post doctorate researcher at Imperial College London and founder of makephysicsfun), Vanessa Amberleigh (producer of CBeebies Bitz & Bob who are engineering adventurers who love to play and make amazing creations at home) as well as representatives from WISE and the Institute of Physics.
The training workshops cover the history of women in science include a full toolkit/lesson plans for the teachers to take away and present to their students about opportunities available.
