The Young Engineers and Science Clubs Scotland programme is run by the Scottish Council for Development and Industry
The rapidly expanding network now numbers some 360 registered clubs throughout Scotland, involving over 5000 primary and secondary school pupils.
The Clubs are generally run by science or technology teachers within schools and further education colleges. Their purpose is to excite pupils about STEM through engaging them in practical, hands-on science, engineering and technology activities. The Clubs normally meet at least once a week, usually after school or at lunchtime, to work on a wide variety projects, challenges and competitions. Many Clubs are partnered by local companies and STEM Ambassadors.
Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust is lead sponsor of Young Engineers and Science Clubs Scotland. Principal Partners include BP, Lloyds Register Educational Trust, OPITO – The Oil and Gas Academy, The Royal Academy of Engineering and Shell.
Young Engineers and Science Clubs perform an important role within the arena of education for work and enterprise in Scotland and compliment the objectives of “Determined to Succeed” and the new Curriculum for Excellence. The Young Engineers and Science Club model is an ideal vehicle for cross-curricular activity in a whole range of disciplines such as mathematics, science and technology, encouraging young people to continue study of these subjects.
